After completing his education, Gantt founded his architectural firm, Gantt Huberman Architects, focusing on projects that promote community development and social equity. He served as the mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, from 1983 to 1987, where he worked to foster economic growth and enhance urban infrastructure.
